Annual GEORGIA SEMINARS BY THE SEA “Porcelain Painters” Convention

A Most Unique “China Painting” School and Artists’ Annual Retreat on Tybee Island! 160 porcelain artists from all over the globe will enjoy luxurious accommodations in vacation villas, catered meals by professional chefs, as they study and recreate on Tybee. SESSION ONE: February 25th – March 2nd, 2010; SESSION TWO: March 2nd – March 7th, 2010. Day students cost is $350 per session. Sunday’s “Promenade” will feature both the artists and their work at 12 lovely Tybee homes. Event is from 2:00pm – 5:00pm, open to the public; Tickets, $8 ($5 TAA members) may be purchased from the Tybee Art Center that day – maps will be available. Ticket price also includes gallery show by Tybee artists, and a drawing for two door prizes: a piece from Porcelain Painters’ Association and a painting from Tybee Arts Association. Tybee Arts will also host a “Porcelain Arts Showcase” at the Tybee Art Center on Wed., Mar. 3rd from 5:00pm – 9:00pm. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.

Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade
March 13th: 3:00 p.m.
Parade assembles at Memorial Park , Tybee Island, GA
Procession moves down Butler Avenue onto Tybrisa Street, and ends on Strand Ave.. Tybee’s Irish Parade was initiated seven years by former City Councilman Jimmy Burke, and son Jay Burke to allow locals to celebrate their Irish Heritage and it’s grown every year. Tybee’s Irish families will be marching, as well as local bands, troupes of bag pipers led by the Grand Marshall and students from Saint Michael’s School, and many festive floats – the Alee Temple Shriners always add a special flare, as well as the colorful Junkanoo Band! You never know who else will show – in 2009 the Clydesdales made a special appearance
THIRD THURSDAYS ON TYBEE
March 18th: 5:00pm – 6:00pm
The lot at Tybee Oaks, Hwy. 80 East
This concert is the second in the series presented by Tybee’s Better Hometown Initiative, and will feature nationally known contemporary folk artist, Lauren Lapointe.

This year’s Savannah Music Festival runs from March 18th through April 3rd, 2010. “The Last Song” Flip Flop Red Carpet Party/Trolley to Victory Cinemas/Huc-a-poos After-Event

Marks the opening of Disney’s “The Last Song,” and benefits the Tybee Marine Science Center Sea Turtle Project!
Event includes Red Carpet “pre-show” gathering at Seaside Sisters, a sneak peak at the new Tybee Wedding Chapel; Old Savannah Tours trolley ride into Savannah to Victory Square Cinemas for movie premiere, and “post-show” party at Hud-a-poos/Tybee Oaks with food and live entertainment. Lots of fun – Tybee “Oskars” and “Thumbs Up Award” presentations, and more… Tickets: $30 (includes movie, entertainment & food, goodie bag and trolley ride – leaves parking lot at 6:30pm, first come first served), or $18 (everything EXCEPT trolley ride into Savannah). 1st Annual “37″ Tybee Seafood Festival
April 8th – 11th:
Tybee’s premiere annual carnival and down home “culinary” festival! Wrapped in old-fashioned, beach-side atmosphere this family-friendly weekend features exciting live entertainment with special guest performers, carnival rides and attractions, and mouth-watering seafood! The carnival opens to the public at 10:00am on Thursday, April 8th at Ocean Plaza parking lot, and remain open from 10:00am – 8:00pm daily, over the weekend! Saturday’s main event and “seafood review” opens at the Tybee’s Pier and Pavilion at 11:00am offering delicious local favorites prepared by the island’s finest restaurants and caterers, as well as live performances by some of the regions best musical artists including The Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love – festivities continue until 10:00pm!

2nd Annual Tybee Island Wine Festival
April 17th: 3:00pm – 7:00pm
Tybee Light Station grounds – Meddin Drive, Tybee Island, GA
Friends of the Tybee Theater’s annual fundraiser towards the restoration of the Tybee Post Theater. Over 100 wines from around the world and craft beers. Local restaurants will be serving “food bites” including Papas BBQ & Seafood, Hunter House, Breakfast Club, Fannies on the Beach, Marlin Monroe’s, and Huck-a-poo’s. Also features trolley rides to the theater site, live entertainment and a special auction. Bring your lawn chair and spend an evening at the Lighthouse sampling exquisite new wines, craft beers and food items from some of the best restaurants on Tybee. Annual Turtle Trot – 5K Tybee Beach Run
April 24th: Sign-in starts 7:30 am, the run/walk at 8:30 am, and sea turtle release around 10:00am

SCAD Sand Art Festival
May 7th:
A special annual festival on Tybee’s North Beach featuring the artistry of Savannah College of Art and Design students’ sand castle competition. Awards are given for the best sand castles, plus sand relief and wind sculpture designs. The public is invited to watch students as they work and view the results!

Tybee 500 Catamaran Race
May 15th:
500-mile Sail Race from Islamorada, Florida, to Tybee Island, Georgia. Race ends on Saturday, May 15th on Tybee Island.

Tybee’s 23rd Annual Beach Bum Parade
May 21st: 6:00pm
Parade assembles at North Beach Parking Lot
One of Tybee’s major “signature” events and a take off from the antics of the * Desoto Beach Bums Softball Club of the mid 1980’s on Tybee, this parade has long been considered an official “kick-off” to summer! Join the locals for the world famous Beach Bum Parade, a wet & wild adventure like no other. Parade floats loaded with water buckets are matched up with spectators lining the parade route on Butler Avenue armed with ’super-soakers’ and hoses for an all-out water fight. Loyal beach bums of all ages join in the fun.
The parade is followed by activities at many of the local businesses. 2010’s Grand Marshall, “Big Kahuna” and Beach Bum Queen haven’t been announced yet, but will be any day – could even be YOU! For more information call (912)786-5541 or (800)868-2322.

Tybee Island Annual Tour of Homes
June 5th: 10:00am – 4:00pm
2010 Tour features a wide variety of large and small island homes, old and new, each completely unique in both character and design.
The Tybee Tour of Homes raises funds to support the Hope House of Savannah, and this is the organization’s primary fund raising event.
Luncheon will be $30 in advance and $35 day of the tour. This event will take place RAIN or SHINE.

Tybee’s Fall Festival of the Arts
Oct. 15th – 16th:
Upscale Art and Fine craft show with exceptional artists, live music and entertainment, culinary delights, and spirits. 10:00am – 8:00pm, Sat, 10:00am – 6:00pm, Sunday – rain or shine. This festival is part of the Tybee culture and continues to establish higher standards for participation. Takes place again this year at South Beach in a magnificent tent, in the hub of island activity on festival weekend including painters, jewelers, potters, woodworkers, photographers, and weavers from across the Southeast. Entries will be juried for cash awards on Saturday morning. No charge to the public. Profits from this event go to Tybee Arts Youth Scholarship fund.
